Rules

  1. Guess the hidden five-letter word in six attempts.
  2. Every guess must be a valid word in the bundled dictionary.
  3. Press Enter to submit. A submitted row cannot be changed.
  4. Repeated letters are scored only as many times as they appear in the answer.

Color guide

  • Green means the letter is correct and in the correct position.
  • Yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different position.
  • Gray means the letter is not in the word.

Controls

Use the on-screen keyboard or your physical keyboard. Backspace removes the last letter. Enter checks the current word.

A brief history

Software engineer Josh Wardle created Wordle as a private game for his partner. He released it publicly in October 2021. Its simple daily format spread rapidly, and The New York Times acquired the game in January 2022.
