A brief history
Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 while working at the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Its name combines “tetra,” referring to four-cell pieces, with “tennis,” one of Pajitnov’s favorite sports. The simple rules and endless variations helped make it one of the most recognizable puzzle games ever made.
