Snake
Serpent Run · three routes
Choose a stage, then start your run.
Rules
- Guide the snake to the food square.
- Each piece of food adds one point and makes the snake one square longer.
- The snake moves continuously after the game starts.
- You may turn up, down, left, or right, but you cannot reverse directly into the next segment of the body.
- Hitting the edge of the board or any part of the snake ends the game.
- Clearing every open square is a complete win.
Controls
Use arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard. Press Space to pause or continue. On a touch screen, swipe across the board or use the direction buttons below it.
Stages
- Meadow is an open board with a relaxed 160 millisecond step.
- Circuit adds twin barriers and moves at 120 milliseconds.
- Ruins adds broken walls and moves at 88 milliseconds.
Choose a stage before every run. Selecting a new stage resets the board and its route-specific best score.
A brief history
Snake belongs to a family of maze games that grew from the two-player arcade game Blockade, released by Gremlin in 1976. Similar games appeared on early home computers, but Nokia's built-in mobile-phone versions made the single-player form familiar to a much wider audience in the late 1990s.
