A brief history

Sokoban was created by Hiroyuki Imabayashi and first published in Japan in 1982. Its name combines the Japanese words for warehouse and keeper. The small ruleset—walk, push, and plan ahead—made it an enduring puzzle format across computers, consoles, and mobile devices.
